Welcome Tiralahilacha

Welcome Tiralahilacha

‘Tirar la hilacha’ means ‘to pull the thread’ in Spanish. Tiralahilacha the brand is the project of fashion designer Meeta Villarroel and graphic designer Pablo Polcan. We’re happy to share that you can now browse their debut menswear collection on Brothers We Stand.

Meeta takes little inspiration from trending colours and more from ‘the colours of the earth.’ Colours she credits with the power to make us relaxed and comfortable. The designer steers clear of synthetic materials and prefers to use organic cotton, linen and responsibly sourced wool. With an average Trustpilot score of 4.8 from 600+ reviews (worth mentioning most are for their womenswear) the recipe appears to work.

The couple run the brand from Barcelona but first met in India aged six. In the years that followed, both spent significant periods of their life in India.

Meeta’s vision for sustainable design was first clarified in India. Searching for help to produce a collection she had previously made herself, she was initially brought face to face with the harsh realities of clothing production. Meeta put it to us like this, ‘When you see it yourself, you really feel it.’ With her love of design not in doubt she resolved that if she was to make clothes it would need to be with materials and suppliers she felt confident matched her values.

Today Tiralahilacha has trusted suppliers in Spain and India. With young children making travel harder, Meeta and Pablo work closely with a man named Nagaraj who is their ‘eyes and ‘ears’ in India. They have worked with Nagaraj for nine years now, having previously worked with him at Assisi Garments, the pioneering Fairtrade Factory he was employed by when they met him.

As Pablo sums it up, ‘we all share this planet’. So their goal for Tiralahilacha is to supply tasteful, durable and comfortable clothes and at the same time, ‘protect natural resources, empower the people making our clothes, and inspire change in the community.
