People
Level Collective have a personal relationship with the artisan screen printer they work with.
The Level Collective have partnered with a sourcing agent who help emerging designers source sustainably and ethically. This agent visit factories daily during production to monitor working conditions and ensure nothing is subcontracted out to un-regulated factories. Each of the factories is also independently audited by the Fair Wear Foundation and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).
Planet
Organic virgin cotton protects the environment and health of farmers from the damaging intensive fertilisers and pesticides conventionally used. These sweatshirt is made from recycled PET bottles. Using recycled polyester is said to reduce carbon emission by 37% when compared to the use of virgin polyester.
The Level Collective’s sourcing partner encourage factories to employ strict waste control and use energy efficient machines.
Screen printed in twith water based inks. Most commercial screen printers use plastisol inks which contain PVC and phthalates that can be harmful to the environment.
Areas for development
The Level Collective's sourcing agent visits the factories producing their t-shirts frequently to follow up on corrective action plans from Fair Wear Foundation audit reports. Gradually increasing wages and reducing overtime are issues included in the discussions though they remain challenges to the factories.
