People
These shirts are made in NWHR’s home region of Galicia, Spain. This has allowed NWHR to visit the factory many times to ensure that everything is produced in good conditions.
NWHR’s 2nd, 3rd tier suppliers (yarn and cotton) are GOTS certified. To be certified by GOTS suppliers must meet high social standards.
NWHR is a team of 5, four women and one man. Employees have flexibility to work from home or the office as suits their routine and enjoy 30 days of vacation compared to the 22 days allowed by Spanish law. NWHR is committed to being an inclusive business and actively support the LGTBI community in their social networks.
Planet
NWHR only works with high quality organic yarns that are not dyed with harmful chemicals. This means their clothing is crafted to last.
Organic cotton helps farmers escape the health risks and financial burden of toxic chemicals involved in conventional cotton production. It also helps wider communities by maintaining (rather than draining) the local water supply and keeping it clean.
NWHR second and third tier suppliers (fabrics and raw materials) are based in the same geographical region as products are cut and sewn. This reduces the carbon footprint of their products compared to other fashion supply chains where inputs cross back and forth around the world.
Areas for development
NWHR cite ‘self-criticism and the desire to improve’ as fundamental values of the business. They would like to explore the use of additional lower impact fabrics such as hemp and Pyratex. In addition they would like to see the factories they work with increase the % of renewable energy they use and change all their lights to LEDs.
