Heart of the brand: Great colours that inspire change

Stand out ethical practices: Sustainable fabrics + local production

Brand founders: Meeta Villarroel Echeverria and Pablo Polcan

Established: 2008

Location: Barcelona, Spain

‘Tirar la hilacha’ means ‘to pull the thread’ in Spanish.

Meeta Villarroel, a fashion designer, and Pablo Polcan, a graphic designer, are the pair behind the brand. Today they live in Barcelona, but they first met in India aged six.

Meeta is inspired by the ‘colours of the earth’. Colours she champions as having the power to make us feel relaxed and comfortable. Her menswear collection consists of knitwear, trousers and t-shirts in carefully selected shades that take little influence from trending colours. The designer steers clear of synthetic materials wherever possible and prefers to use organic cotton, linen and responsibly sourced wool.

The pair are proud that their production is split between trusted partners in India and Spain. On the ground in India, Meeta and Pablo work closely with a man named Nagaraj who oversees production. They have worked with Nagaraj for nine years now, having previously worked with him at Assisi Garments, the pioneering Fairtrade Factory he was employed by when they first met him.
